The Significance of Addressing Empty Stagnant Water in Abandoned Pools and Vegetation in Empty Plots Before Summer

The stagnation of water in abandoned pools can pose a serious risk to public health. In addition to attracting disease-transmitting mosquitoes such as dengue and others, stagnant water can become a conducive environment for the proliferation of bacteria and other harmful organisms.

Therefore, it is crucial for the owners of abandoned pools to act in accordance with the current legislation to ensure the safety of the community.

Portuguese law, Law No. 52/2018, establishes measures for the control and management of pools that are not in use. This law requires owners of abandoned pools to take necessary measures to ensure that the water is drained and that the pool is properly covered or sealed to prevent water accumulation. Furthermore, local authorities have the power to impose fines on owners who do not comply with these provisions.

Similarly, cleaning vacant lots before summer is essential to prevent forest fires and protect the environment.

Law No. 76/2017 establishes measures for the prevention and combat of forest fires, including the cleaning of forest areas and vacant lots. Owners are responsible for ensuring that their lots are clean and free of dry vegetation, which can serve as fuel for fires.
